Maroons, Bulldogs head to divisional track

Butte Central and Butte High will send their track teams on the road looking for State qualifiers Friday and Saturday.

The Maroons will compete in the Southwestern A Divisional meet in Corvallis, while the Bulldogs head to Great Falls for the Eastern AA meet.

Butte High’s boys’ and girls’ have a handful of athletes who already qualified for next week’s Class AA State meet in Bozeman. The Bulldogs, though, are going to need a big weekend at divisionals to have a chance to compete for hardware at State.

On the boys’ side, Butte High has four individuals and the 400 relay team who have earned a spot at State. They don’t have to compete at divisionals to move on, but they must be entered in the event.

Dalton Daum, a sophomore who placed second at State in the 100- and 200-meter races last year, qualified in those meets again. Zach Bunney will join him at State in the 100.

Daum and Bunney are also half of the 400-meter relay team that has the fastest time in the state this season at 43.8 seconds. Bo Taylor and Jake Eisenbarth are the other half.

Also, Kyle Christie is the No. 2-ranked pole vaulter in the state. He qualified for Bozeman by clearing 14 feet.

Jake Dennehy has a spot in State locked up in the discus.

On the girls’ side, Erika McLeod has qualified for State in two events, the 200 and the long jump. She’s also part of the State-qualifying 400 relay team along with Natalee Faupel, Sammy McGree and Mariah Richardson.

Carlie Haeffner qualified in the high jump, while Rashae Emerson and Brianna O’Mara made it in the shot put.

McKenzee O’Neill will compete at State in the javelin.

No Butte Central boys’ have qualified for state — yet.

Mariah Cooney has three events secured at the Class A meet in Laurel.  She’s already qualified in the long jump, triple jump and javelin.

Molly McIntyre also qualified in the long jump for the Maroons.
