Maroons, Bulldogs compete at Mountain West

MISSOULA — Butte High and Butte Central runners posted strong times at the Mountain West Classic cross country meet Saturday.

Nic Raiser, a Butte High senior, was the fastest Butte runner on the day. He finished the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 3 seconds. That was good for 73rd place.

Brody Smith of Cody, Wyoming, won with a time of 15:08.

Shannon Tempel finished in 18:26 for the Bulldogs, while Austin Gerry crossed in 18:50. Seth Grant (19:08), Gunthar Clark (19:17) and Eric Casagranda (19:19) finished close together under the 20-minute mark. Lathan Rickets finished in 20:55.

Brian McGeehan led three BC runners, finishing in 18:00. Theran Nelson (20:18) and Nathan Ortega (21:46) also ran for the Maroons boys.

In the girls’ race, Kalispell Glacier’s Annie Hill won with a time of 17:12.

Caty Carmody paced Butte High’s runners with a mark of 21:04. She finished just ahead of teammate Joby Rosenleaf, who crossed in 21:17.

Rosie Real (23:34), Sydney Pendergast (24:28), Maya Robins (26:09) and Sheridan Hafer (27:13) also ran for Butte High’s girls.

Butte Central’s Abby McGee crossed in 22:57.
