Maroons buck Broncs to stay alive at divisionals

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Butte Central volleyball team staved off elimination Friday morning.

The Maroons swept Hamilton 25-23, 25-12, 25-16 in a loser-out game at the Western A Divisional tournament.

The Maroons will play the loser of the 4 p.m. Dillon-Columbia Falls match. The winner of that match advances to Saturday play and punches a ticket to next week’s Class A State tournament in Bozeman.

That match will begin at 8 p.m.

“We started off slow in the first game, but the girls fought back, got the win and never looked back,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “Our thing today has been one game at a time, we got one, now it’s one more win to punch our ticket into the State tournament next week.”

Corbyn Holm tallied 14 kills, 11 digs and three aces to lead the BC attack. Emily St. John, who dished 29 assists, and Mollie Peoples each registered six kills.

Peoples added a team-best 20 digs, leading four BC players in double figures in that category. Wahl joined Holm with 11 digs, while St. John dug 10.

“We need to take this morning’s game and take it to another level tonight at 8,” Hancock said. “It is going to be a good one and we are ready.”
