Maroons down Broncs for third-place trophy

HAMILTON — Make it two trophies for the Butte Central Maroons.

The Butte Central boys’ basketball team also captured some hardware Saturday, knocking off Hamilton 53-47 in the third-place game of the Western A Divisional tournament on the Dale Berry Court. Stats

The Maroons will open the Class A State tournament at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 9 against the No. 2 team from the East at the Butte Civic Center. Bracket

Tanner Kump went 5 for 5 from behind the 3-point line and scored 19 points to lead the Maroons, who will take a 13-9 record into the state tournament. Fellow senior Nate McGree poured in 12 points.

Sam Johnston and Jared Simkins each scored six points in the win, while Matt Simkins scored five, Dan McCloskey hit a three, and Cade Holter netted two.

Tanner Gologoski scored 18 points to lead the Broncs (15-6), who will also head to state. Carter Kearns scored 12.
