DILLON — For the second straight night, Butte Central’s volleyball team got of to a slow start.
This time, the Maroons bounced back in a big way.
Central overcame a 25-20 defeat in the first set with wins of 29-27, 25-18 and 25-19 to top Dillon in a Southwestern A match at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.
“Started off slow again tonight, but we definitely found the fire that we needed to get it done,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “The girls adjusted well in defense, and Ella Moodry had one heck of a game for us on the outside.”
Moodry, a freshman, pounded 16 of Central’s 41 digs to lead the way.
“Pretty dang impressive for a freshman to step up like that,” Hancock said.
Avery Kelly also had a dominant performance for the Maroons, who bounced back from Wednesday’s four-set loss at Frenchtown. She smacked six kills to go along with seven blocks. Amira Bolton registered nine kills.
Bolton also teamed with Sophia Burton and Maci Reopelle to combine for 46 digs. Burton and Bolton each dug 16, while Reopelle, who dished up 37 assists, dug 15.
Marissa Anderson added seven kills, and Burton served five aces in the win.
“I’m proud of how the girls rebounded from last night,” Hancock said. “Playing back to back can be tough, but the girls showed up tonight and got it done.”
The Maroons are back in action next Tuesday to celebrate Senior Parents Night in a match with Corvallis. BC and Dillon will play again next Thursday at the Maroon Activities Center.
