Maroons ace Copperheads

ANACONDA — The Maroons took care of business in the Snake Pit Tuesday night.

BC’s volleyball team out killed Anaconda 43-15, and the Maroons knocked off the Copperheads 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 in a non-conference match.

Corbyn Holm spiked 13 kills, and Mollie Peoples killed 10 to lead the BC attack.

Butte Central coach Becky Hancock pointed to serving as a key for the Maroons to overcome what the coach said was a slow start. BC served 11 aces on the night. Peoples served four, while Taylor Wahl aced three.

“Mollie Peoples served us into a second game win as we were down 11-18,” Hancock said. “The third game we took that momentum and rolled with it. Things were clicking, and our hitters were putting the ball away. That third game is what we need to be doing consistently, it was fun to watch. The passing was there, sets were on point and our hitters were cranking away at the ball.”

Emily St. John’s 36 assists led the BC passing game. Zoe Sullivan collected a team-best 12 digs. St. John added 10 digs, while Peoples dug nine and Holm dug eight.

Michaela Cortright tallied eight kills to lead the Copperheads, who got 24 digs from Libby Jorgensen.

The Maroons are back in action Saturday when they travel to Hamilton for a Southwestern A match.
