Maroon tennis players bow out of divisional tourney

The Southwestern A Divisional tennis tournament very well could finish inside in Missoula Saturday.

None of the Butte Central players will be making the trip if it does, however.

Butte Central’s tennis team saw 17 of 20 players advance to Friday’s second round.

Unfortunately for the host Maroons, all the remaining BC players bowed out Friday at Stodden and Father Sheehan parks.

The boys played at Father Sheehan, while the girls played at Stodden. Action is scheduled to resume at those two parks Saturday. However, the Peak Racquet Club in Missoula is on standby incase play has to be moved inside.

Ali Guldseth and Kellsie Quinn advanced to the semifinals. After losing the match the match that would have clinched a berth in the Class A State tournament, the BC duo fell in the consolation semifinals.

Only the top four singles players and top four doubles teams move on.

Sierra Pica and Ryan Trudnowski won a consolation match Friday before getting knocked out of the tournament. Samantha Burton and Savannah Healy dropped their consolation match.

In singles play, Megan McPherson, Sarah Drew and Larysa Blavatsky all picked up a consolation win before losing out for the BC girls. Blavatsky knocked out teammate Zoe Sullivan before falling in the next round.

On the boys’ side, Frank Hendrickson and Sam Joyce won a pair of doubles matches on the consolation bracket before losing out. Bryan Arnold and Frank Dwyer lost out in their first match of the day.

Tyge Yelenich saw his strong freshman season end. He won a match before falling to teammate Sam Sterns. Sterns bowed out in the next consolation round.

Jake McPherson also lost out in his first match.
