Maroon open districts against Frenchtown

The Butte Central volleyball team opens the Southwestern A Divisional tournament at 4 p.m. Friday against Frenchtown at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium in Dillon.

The Maroons, who finished the regular season at 9-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play, swept the season series with the Broncs.

The winner of the match advances to take on second-seeded Stevensville at 8 p.m.

Hamilton opens the tournament against Dillon at 2 p.m. The winner of that match takes on top-seeded Corvallis.

BC is the No. 3 seed, followed by Dillon, Hamilton and Frenchtown.

The tournament isn’t a true double-elimination event. A team cannot battle back from a loss to win. Losing teams head to the consolation bracket, where the best they can do is third place.

The top four teams move on to next week’s Western A Divisional tournament in Whitefish. The Class A State tournament is the following week in Bozeman.
