Maroon JV girls improve to 10-3

Butte Central’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team sits at 10-3 on the season after winning four of its last five games. Following is a rundown of recent action by the Maroons.

Helena High 49, Butte Central 32
Sierra Pica’s nine points led a balanced BC attack in the loss to Class AA Helena. Chandra McCurdy and Shawnee Hjelt each scored eight, while Ryan Trudnoski scored four, Shelby Paffhausen netted two and Cassidy Mandic tossed in one.

Butte Central 28, Stevensville 3
Paffhausen scored eight points to lead the Maroons in the easy win. Pica scored seven for the Maroons, who got four from McCurdy and Hjelt, three from Tayler Templin and two from Rachel Banks.

Butte Central 28, Hamilton 26
McCurdy and Paffhausen each scored six points as BC edged the Broncs at the MAC. Also, Templin scored five, Pica netted four, Trudnowski scored three and Hjelt and Mandic added two.

Butte Central 39, Dillon 34
Butte Central hit on 12 of 15 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter as the Maroons overcame an 11-point deficit after three quarters. Pica scored nine points, while Ashley Marthaller scored seven, Trudnowski scored 6, Templin and McCurdy netted five and Bancs scored two. Marthaller and McCurdy were also credited with leading BC’s strong defensive effort.

Butte Central 43, Livingston 38 (OT)
Templin scored 14 and Trudnoski tallied 10 for the Maroons, who used the extra frame to pick up the road victory. Pica added nine points in the win. Paffhausen scored four, McCurdy scored three and Mandic scored two.
