The application period for the 2013 Mariah Daye McCarthy Scholarship runs from Friday through March 31.
The scholarship is available to high school seniors in Butte who live by the ideals of Mariah’s Challenge — don’t drink underage and don’t drink and drive. The scholarship is open to seniors at Butte High and Butte Central as well as alternative school and home school students.
On Oct. 28, 2007, Mariah McCarthy, a Butte High freshman and devote Bulldog fan, was run over and killed by an underage drunk driver. Mariah’s Challenge was launched on Feb. 8, 2008, during a ceremony between the boys’ and girls’ Butte High-Anaconda basketball games at a packed Butte Civic Center.
Since the spring of 2008, the Mariah Daye McCarthy Scholarship has awarded $147,000 in college scholarships to Butte students.
