MAC to hold basketball academy

The Maroon Activities Center will sponsor a basketball academy style training program this summer. The Southwest Montana Basketball Academy will offer one-on-one, small group, and mini-camp basketball training opportunities for boys and girls aged 6 and older.

The program will also offer a six-week strength and conditioning program for young female athletes.

The basketball training program will offer individualized skill development opportunities for players of all levels. From beginners to the varsity level, the SWMBA will focus on helping players gain confidence on the court, improve as players, and enjoy the game of basketball.

The program will work with players to develop shooting, scoring, ball handling, passing, rebounding and defensive skills. Interested players may sign up for one-on-one and small group sessions on a per hour basis. The mini-camp will begin in late June and will be announced at a later time.

The strength and conditioning program for the young female athlete will begin June 10 and continue through August. The program, which will be open to girls entering sixth grade through high school, will focus on enhancing athletic performance, improving strength and flexibility, and reducing injury rates. The program will feature three one-hour training sessions each week for six weeks.

The basketball and strength programs will be directed by Quinn Peoples, who currently plays college basketball at Montana State University-Billings.  Several other current college players and high school coaches will also be involved in providing instruction.
