Loudenback to start at QB for Orediggers

Montana Tech will open the season with Andrew Loudenback as the starting quarterback.

Oredigger coach Chuck Morrell confirmed that decision during an appearance on KBOW Overtime Wednesday night.

Loudenback gets the nod over redshirt freshman Dawson Reardon, who gained a medical redshirt after suffering a season-ending knee injury in his second start last season.

A6-foot-3, 225-pound sophomore from Parker, Colorado, Loudenback transferred to Tech from Monterey Peninsula College in California before the spring semester. He completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns as a freshman at Monterey.

“He had a great camp,” Morrell said. “He’s a heady player. He’s a very intelligent player.”

Morrell said he and the coaching staff went back and forth all spring and summer over the key decision. He said it was a very tough call.

“I’m very proud of Dawson Reardon,” Morrell said. “If Dawson needs to step into a game we’re not going to miss a beat. He can step in and win us any game we play this year.”

The Orediggers open the season at 6 p.m. Saturday night against Montana Western in Dillon.
