Local All-Star game rosters selected

The 2014 Southwest Montana High School Basketball Classic rosters were released today.

The games will be played March 18 at the Montana Tech HPER Complex. The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game. The games will feature 24 boys and 24 girls from 15 schools in southwest Montana. A handful of alternates were also selected.

The teams were selected by a committee of sports broadcasters and sports writers after receiving nominations from coaches of area schools. The game is sponsored by the Butte Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Committee.

“We are excited about the caliber of players and coaches who have been selected to participate in the game,” said Butte Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marko Lucich. “They are an outstanding group of competitors who have made their mark in high school basketball in southwest Montana. We are proud to have them involved in the Classic.”

The Big Sky boys’ team will be coached by Jim Konen and John “Skeez” Sullivan.

Konen is a former Butte Central head football coach, Butte Central assistant basketball coach, Montana Tech assistant football coach, and Butte High head basketball coach.

Sullivan is former Butte High boys basketball assistant coach, longtime head coach of the West Junior High ninth- grade boys’ team in Butte.

The Big Sky boys team will be made up of Dallas Cook, Peter Granger and Brian Smith of Butte High; Nate Bolstad, Kale Guldseth and Marcus Ferriter of Butte Central; Jerry Metesh of Philipsburg; Logan Doiron of Deer Lodge, Bryce Murphy of Whiteall; Nolan Konen of Twin Bridges; and Trace LeTexier and Cole Woodland of Boulder.

The list of alternates for the team include Cory Farstveet of Butte High and Dalton Sessions of Butte Central.

The Treasure State boys’ team will be coached by John Sullivan and Anthony Connole.

Sullivan is a former Butte Central and Western Montana player and former head coach of the Ennis boys’ basketball team .

Connole is former Jefferson High School girls assistant coach in Boulder.

The Treasure State boys’ roster features Troy Scott, Chance Kluesner, Brady Richardson and Trae Williams of Dillon; Dennis Stanberry and Jackson Wagner of Anaconda; Garrett Peterson of Harrison; Connor Sullivan and Braden McKittrick of Ennis; Dee Mayer of Lima; and Kevin Oberweiser and Gregory Schlinder of Drummond.

The Big Sky girls’ team will be coached by John Thatcher and his niece Lindsay Thatcher.

John Thatcher is a former head coach at Butte Central and Butte High, and former assistant men’s coach at Montana Tech.

Lindsay Thatcher is a former player at Montana Tech and former assistant girls coach at Butte Central.

Playing for the Thatchers on the Big Sky girls’ team will be Sammy McGree, Mariah Richardson, Andie Hogan and McKaul Ori of Butte High; Shelby Paffhausen, Mollie Peoples and Emily St. John of Butte Central; Britt Cooper, Jaci Nesbitt and Kristen White of Harrison and Krissy Paske and Frankie Bignell of Drummond.

Alternates for the Big Sky team include Maria Michelotti of Butte High and Chandra McCurdy and Sierra Pica of Butte Central.

Kevin Engellant and Scott Connole will coach the Treasure State girls’ team.

Kevin Engellant is former player at Western Montana, former head women’s coach at Western Montana and former boys’ and girls’ assistant coach at Dillon High School.

Connole is a former head girls’ coach at Jefferson County High School in Boulder.

Players on the Treasure State roster are Courtney Moodry, Taylor Flynn and Kiernan Gallagher of Anaconda; Cierra Lamey and Courtney Linder of Dillon; Bailee Senecal, Dani Walker and Laci Thomas of Deer Lodge; Mallory Herzog and Janessa Williams of Boulder; and Allison Griebenow and Morgan Martin of Twin Bridges.

In addition to the basketball games, the event will feature the cheer squads from Butte High and Butte Central and the bands from Butte High School and Anaconda High School. The Dynamic Dance and Tumbling Company will also perform at the half time of both games.

A 3-point contest featuring the top shooters in southwest Montana will also be included at half-time.

Advance tickets for the event will available beginning Wednesday, March 12 at the Butte Chamber of Commerce, 1000 George Street. On game day, tickets will be available at the gate beginning at 5 p.m.
