Little Guy Football Week 1

Following is the Week 1 roundup of play from the Mining City Little Guy Football league’s first week of the season. Games are played Copper Mountain Park.

Lisac’s Tire Raiders 22, Newland and Company Bears 8
Defense was key for the Raiders in the victory. Gary “Pork Chop” Rubush, Logan “Steak” Thomas and Austin Zinda were huge in the middle. Jack “Hollywood” Keeley intercepted a pass and tossed a touchdown. Colin McKennan was great on end, and Jack Luoma lived up to his name as a “Jack of all trades” with his run blocking and tackling.

Kandel Kovnesky showed off some great play for a first game to lead the Bears. Keytahn Riddle stepped up with containment at D-end. Trey Hansen, who was coming off a big injury, had a nose for the ball with great open field tackles. Ayden Harryman provided some great kicking.

Pioneer Technical Packers 28, Casagranda’s Seahawks 14
Jeremiah “Sorry Not” Saari scored a pair of touchdowns, one on a kick return, to lead the Pack. Will “Smooth” Silk caught a deep touchdown pass on the last play of the first half, and Tyson Zeven scored a late touchdown on a long run. Nathan Collins and Kaleb Paddock played great defense.

Ruesso “Bruised And” Batterman ran the ball well for the Seahawks, who got great defense from Aiden Cuchine and Brayden Doherty. Gavin Trudgeon played strong on the line, while Brian Demairis was a good sport.

First Citizens Cowboys 45, Lil Copperhead Colts 24
Tyler Wasler scored two touchdowns and Kyler Kjersten was unstoppable on defense to lead the Cowboys. Dillon Bauch played outstanding quarterback, while Danny “Great” Scott-Breen stood out on defense.

For the Colts, Laldyn Thompson tackled well at middle linebacker. He also ran the ball well. Aiden James did a nice job blocking and made some key tackles, while Jesus Harris closed well on defense. Also, Gabe Durlap made some good tackles, while Brody “Mister” Wright scored on a long touchdown run.

Opportunity Bank Buccaneers 24, McQueen Athletic Club Patriots 0
Ryan “Up With” Peoples scored two touchdowns, while Cayde and Trapper Stajcar each scored one. Will “The Thrill” McGree led the defense in tackles, while Jacoby “The Playmaker” Demessemaker was dominant on the defensive line.

Kail Knutson, Trey Smith and Gannon Sullivan played tough on both sides of the line to lead the Patriots. Jory Ward and Josh “Sonny” Liston had a good showing on offense.

Thriftway Giants 20, Universal Athletic Dolphins 0
Lavin Giacamino scored two touchdowns and played great defense to lead the Giants to victory. Brooks Vincent added a touchdown, and Colt Hassler and J.J. Taylor were a dominate force on the defensive line. J.J. Taylor, Ziggy “Zigzag” Okrusch and Eli Johnson played great on all three phases.

Ryder McEwen carried the offense with power running to lead the Dolphins. Levi Wiltsie recovered a fumble, Kendal Noctor blocked a PAD and made some tough tackles, and Jacoby Baughman had a great kickoff return.

Steele’s Falcons 18, Buffalo Wild Wings Steelers 8
Sam Sampson ran for a touchdown and picked off two passes, returning one for a touchdown to lead the Falcons. Jake Hennelly was a beast in the trenches, registering a tackle for a loss. Coy Campbell and Robbie Holman played great pass defense. Jay Tierney kicked well.

Oliver “Man of” Steele, Braydon “Money” Worth and Ben Tierney played great defense for the Steelers. Sam Henderson played great at receiver. Patrick Stimatz and Will Stepan played good games at quarterback. Stepan ran for a touchdown.

Lil Copperhead Rams 13, Glacier Bank Bengals 12
Riley Kriskovich booted a PAD and the game-winning field goal for the Rams. Robert Warham did an awesome job disrupting the running game and getting after the quarterback. The entire Rams defense was credited for stepping up and playing tough.

Grady Winston scored on a run and a kick return to lead the Bengals. Corey Anderson threw a nice completion to Garrett “Razor” Sharp, while Maverick McEwen ran the ball hard. Jake “The Snake” Tauscher played strong on both sides of the line.

Thompson Distributing Vikings 30, CCCS Redskins 24 (OT)
Colby “Flash” Gordon scored on two long touchdown runs, while Hudson Luedtke added a long TD on a kickoff return to his stellar defense. Danny McCarty made key stops on defense, where Devin “The Beast” Rossiter earned himself a nickname with his defensive play. Lucas Harris did a little bit of everything in the win.

Karson Pumnea played a great game on defense to go along with a pair of touchdowns on offense. Tocher Lee, who played a great game at quarterback, returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Torre Dunmire and Mason Newgard played outstanding defense, while Trey McCarthy made a tackle at the 5-yard line to force overtime.
