Lights upset Saints

HAVRE — Carroll College’s once promising football season took another serious hit Saturday afternoon.

Senior running back Zach McKinley ran for three touchdowns, and the Lights upset No. 21 Carroll 28-14 at Blue Pony Stadium. Stats

McKinley scored on runs of 24 and 5 yards, while Wyatt McKinlay hauled in a 6-yard pass from Jess Krahn as the Lights built a 21-0 lead.

Carroll got on the board when J.T. Linder tossed a 26-yard TD pass to Connor Fohn early in the fourth quarter. The PAT failed.

McKinley answered with an 18-yard TD run, extending the lead to 28-6 with 4 minutes, 53 seconds left.

Dylan Green scored on a 1-yard run for the Saints with 2:34 left. Kyle Griffith hauled in a Linder pass on the 2-point conversion.

It was too little, too late, however, as Carroll dropped its second straight road game following the Saints’ season-opening win over Montana Tech.

Linder completed 16 of 30 passes for 208 yards in the loss. Fohn caught 11 passes for 181 yards.

McKinley ran for 80 yards as the Lights won for the first time since 2014. The win snapped a 12-game Northern losing streak.
