Lights, Bears survive first round of Frontier

MSU-Northern and Rocky Mountain College won first-round games in the Frontier Conference men’s basketball playoffs Wednesday night.

Northern went to Helena to beat Carroll College 66-60 (stats), while Rocky Mountain held off the University of Great Falls 87-81 in Billings (stats). The Lights will head to No. 1 Lewis-Clark State College for Saturday’s semifinals, while the Battlin’ Bears will travel to Dillon to take on Montana Western.

Corbin Pearson scored 18 points to lead the Lights to the win. Trevail Lee and Warren Edmondson added 11 points as the Lights outscored Carroll 42-29 in the second half to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit.

Zach Taylor poured in 26 points to lead Carroll.

Sian Lane scored 19 points to lead Rocky to its fifth straight win.
