Lexie scores 18, leads Eagles past Cats

MISSOULA — Lexie Nelson and the Eastern Washington Eagles are in the final four at the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball tournament.

The Butte High graduate poured in 18 points to lead the Eagles to a 68-53 victory over Montana State.

The Eagles, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will play No. 2 Northern Colorado in Friday’s semifinals. The University of Montana received a bye to the semis.

Nelson played all 40 minutes and hit on 8 of 18 shots from the field. She buried two 3-pointers.

Laura Hughes came off the bench to score 13 points, while Kylie Huerta, who dished nine assists, and Aubrey Ashenfelter each scored 11.

Rachel Semansky, Ashley Brummell and Kalli Durham each scored eight points to lead the Bobcats.
