Lexie Nelson wins EeeWoo

CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University basketball player Lexie Nelson took home the Best Female Athlete Award at the fifth annual EeeWoos Tuesday night.

The ceremony was held at the school’s Showalter Auditorium.

Nelson, a 2010 Butte High graduate, was one of four nominees for the award. She was the only underclassman nominated. She also named the Female Newcomer of the Year.

The University of Montana transfer averaged 14 points per game as a sophomore, earning first-team All-Big Sky honors. Her 84.5 percent free throw percentage ranked nationally.

Nelson, who is Butte High’s all-time leading scorer, scored in double digits in all but four Big Sky games last season. She scored more than 20 points three times.

Soccer player Cassie Black, track athlete Michelle Coombs and tennis player Moira Hedberg were also nominated for the award.
