Lexie Nelson’s coaching career will have to wait a while.
The former Butte High Bulldog and Eastern Washington Eagle signed a one-year contract with the Kotka Peli-Karhut in the Finnish SM-Sarja League. Slan Sports Management announced the signing Saturday.
Nelson is a 5-foot-6 guard who averaged 14.6 points per game over three seasons at Eastern Washington. She led the Eagles to the Big Sig Conference semifinals and the second round of the National Invitational Tournament last season.
The 2010 Butte High graduate began her career at the University of Montana after becoming Butte High’s all-time leading scorer.
The Kotka Peli-Karhut finished fourth in the SM-Sarja League last season. The team reached the semifinals in the playoffs.
This season, Kotka Peli-Karhut is off to an 0-3 start, and Slan Sports Management says Nelson is expected to be a major contributor right away.
Nelson took a job as an assistant coach with the Montana Tech women’s basketball team before heading to overseas to continue her playing career.
