Friday night was a night full of Mining City legends as the Butte Sports Hall of Fame grew by nine individuals and four teams.
Walter Lonner, Tom Pomroy Sr., Kathy (Bender) Means, Tom Hauck, Bob Rowling, Krystal (Ackerman) Carlson, Barry Sullivan, Paul Riley and Jason Street were welcomed into the Hall of Fame during the Butte Sports Hall of Fame Green Jacket Ceremony at the Butte Civic Center.
Before the new inductees received their Green Jackets from surprise presenters, the night began with the introduction of 35 current members of the Hall of Fame that dates back to 1987.
Gene Allen, Jim Anderson, Mare Bartholomew, Gary Carle, Ron Collins, Mick Delaney, Mark Devore, Anna Fabatz, Gene Fogarty, Bob Green, Bob Hawke, Deann Johnson, Doc Jordan, Len Kelly, Tom LeProwse, Dan Mahoney, Rick Lyons, Fraser MacDonald, Jon McElroy, Charlie Merrifield, Jim Michelotti, Jerry Olds, Josh Paffhausen, Wayne Paffhausen, Don Peoples Sr., Tom Pomroy Jr., Larry Richards, Bob Roach, Pete Schonsberg, Frank Spear, Steve Stosich, Jim Street, Dan Sullivan, Anna Wherry and Jamie (Wolstein) Toivonen all walked the carpet to an ovation from the large crowd.
Members of the 1979 Montana Tech football team, the 1981 Montana Tech volleyball team, the 1990 Butte High wrestling team and the 1994 Butte High volleyball team were introduced as well.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for Saturday night. It begins with a cocktail hour at 6. Dinner is at 7.
