Lefthand, Hardin boys keep title defense hopes alive

GREAT FALLS — Defending champion Hardin outscored Browning 39-23 in the second half this afternoon to knock off the Indians 69-59 in the first round of the Class A State tournament. (Stats)

The win send Hardin to Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal against Butte Central.

Famous Lefthand poured in 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the way for the 20-2 Bulldogs. Trae Hugs scored 12 points.

C.J. Smith scored 16 rebounds to lead three Indians in double figures. Tyree Whitcomb scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Riley Spoonhunter scored 11.

Browning (22-3) heads to loser-out play.
