It’s safe to say the Bulldogs are happy to be playing in the Civic Center this season as both programs continue to shine on the big stage, where Hollywood resided last year.
“ We love Ross J, but playing at the Civic Center is something special it’s a great gym.” Said head coach Matt Luedtke. So much so that even opposing teams love it and check their schedule when traveling to the Mining City to see if the game is in fact at the ever popular Butte Civic Center.
In the second of a Bulldog basketball double header Helena got the scoring started off on a put-back lay in. Tocher Lee would pick pocket Helena and scorch down the court for a fast break bucket. Lee would then follow it up by splashing home a triple from the left wing to give the Dogs a 5-2 lead.
Capital would come down on their next possession and cast a 3 ball to tie it up at 5 apiece with 4 to play in the period. Tocher Lee was in his bag early splashing home another triple to make it 8-5, scoring all 8 Bulldog points himself, leading to a Bruin timeout with 2:30 to go in the opening frame.
Helena moved to a zone to defense to stop the 3 ball but Hudson Luedtke found 6 foot 6 freshmen Braylon Larson flashing the key and he put it in for two. He’d then come back down on the Dogs next possession and net an other two ball to give the Dogs a 12-8 cushion.
With 4 seconds left Hudson Luedtke knocked down a jumper from the left elbow and Butte would lead 15-9 after 1 quarter of play.
Helena stayed in a zone and Larson kept making them pay as his slender long frame was seemingly unguardable as he netted his 6th point off the bench, 17-10 Butte.
Helena was fouled on their next possession hitting two free throws to slow the bleeding after getting a Bulldog stop their next time down, leading to two more Bruin foul shots and hitting one of two. 17-15 Dogs with 5:39 to play in the first half.
Off the “Buford” special, Torre Temple splashed home a deep triple but Capital would answer right back with a 3 of their own. Bo Demarais sliced his way to the bucket and made a nice little jumper off the glass for two.
Capital started to find a rhythm after a stop and two quick buckets and a foul hitting them both and cutting the lead to just 1 with just over 3 to play, 22-21.
Bo Demarais kept up the good work down low off a nice feed from Bobby Bache and laid it in for two more Bulldog points. Helena kept knocking down foul shots to keep it a one possession game late in the second half.
Braylon Larson kept up his hot shooting as he notched two more of his 8 first half points to push the lead to 4 at 27-23 Butte High.
Tocher Lee used every bit of time to make sure his hot hand got a shot off as he hit an incredible shot from half court as time expired, 30-24 Butte High.
Ruesso Battermann started the second half the old fashioned way with the 3 point play opening up a 9 point lead. Battermann found a weakness and continued to exploit it as he went to the rack hard and put in two more Butte High points, 35-24 Butte.
Battermann continued to attack on the offensive end as he hit another jumper and started the 3rd 3 of 3 from the field. Both teams would trade 3 balls on their next possessions and Butte would lead by 13.
Colton Shea checked in the game and wasted no time, Torre Temple found Shea in the corner and he splashed it home, Hudson Luedtke would come down and bury a triple of his own and the Bulldog lead blossomed to 20 points with 3 minutes to play in the 3rd.
Braylon Larson checked back in and picked up right where he left off as he swatted Capital leading to a Bulldog fast-break where Luedtke would find Larson and reward the big man as he went up for two, he was fouled and converted the shot at the line, 50-27 Butte.
Butte High swarmed Capital with their defense and created turnovers leading to a Bo Demarais and 1 bucket, followed by two more at the stripe by Bobby Bache, 55-27 Butte.
Capital finally found a bucket to fall but it wouldn’t matter because the Bruins couldn’t stop the red hot Bulldogs.
Butte would lead after 3 quarters of play 57–31.
Tocher Lee would continue his tear as he began the 4th with a triple and 3 more Bulldog points, leading to a Bobby Bache bucket on the their next possession, as Butte was blowing the Bruins out of the gym with their play on both ends of the court.
Helena couldn’t get much going in the second half while everything was falling for Butte. Braylon Larson and Tocher Lee kept up the pace as Larson had defenders draped all over him and hit the shot with his off hand and was fouled on the play completing yet another 3 point play as the freshman had himself one hell of a night.
Butte would go on to win this one in convincing fashion 75-43.
Tocher Lee led all scorers with 19 points, Braylon Larson had 15, Bo Demarais had 9, while Torre Temple, Hudson Luedtke, and Ruesso Batterman all had 7, Dylan Bache had 6, and Colton Shea had 3. The win moves Butte to (3-2, 5-4) overall and will travel to Helena High this weekend for their 3rd game of the week.
