Late touchdown sends Raiders to final four

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Frontier Conference champions are in the final four of the NAIA football playoffs, and Southern Oregon punched its ticket with some dramatic flair.

Rey Vega scored on a 6-yard run with 47 seconds left to give the Raiders a 34-29 win over Lindsey Wilson in a quarterfinal match up. Stats

Southern Oregon will play in the semifinals next week. Pairings will be announced later.

In other quarterfinal games, Saint Francis (Indiana) beat Northwestern (Iowa) 30-3, Reinhart (Georgia) topped Georgetown (Kentucky) 17-10, and Morningside (Iowa) rolled Saint Xavier (Illinios) 52-7.

Vega punched in a short run and Tanner Trosin threw for a pair of touchdowns to give the Raiders a 21-10 halftime lead. Tosin, the Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Year, threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chance Cole before hitting Isaac Hurd for a 14-yard strike.

Lindsey Wilson pulled to within 21-17 when Dylan Beasley found Blake Ingleton for an 18-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Michael Roots scored on a 2-yard run to build the SOU lead to 28-17 early in the fourth quarter.

After a field goal and a safety, Beasley hit Jay Gaudlock for a 5-yard touchdown with 6:16 left. The Raiders answered with a drive that was capped by Vega’s game-winner.

Trosin completed 25 of 38 passes for 279 yards. He also ran nine times for 58 yards. Vega ran for just 29 yards on 11 carries, but he made those yards count.

Beasley passed for 344 yards in the losing effort.
