HAVRE — Sydney Hovde turned a three-point play with 15 seconds left Friday night, and MSU-Northern knocked off Montana Tech 52-51 in a Frontier Conference women’s basketball game at the Armory Gymnasium. (Stats)
Northern outscored the Orediggers 18-9 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 42-34 deficit.
Tech led 50-44 after Mesa Williams sank a 3-pointer with just over a minute left.
Gokce Aslan hit a bucket before Tiara Gilham sank a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left to cut the lead to 50-49. Tech’s Chelestina Faletoi hit one free throw to extend the lead to two with 22 seconds left, setting up Hovde’s game-winning play.
Hovde tossed in 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds for the Skylights (4-10, 15-11), who beat Tech for the third time this season. Gilham scored 12 points.
Dani Urick’s 14 points led three Tech players in double figures as the Orediggers fell to 2-11 and 12-12 with their fourth straight loss. Williams scored 11 points, while Kaylee Zard posted another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Mollie Peoples tossed in nine points.
Tech will be in Great Falls Saturday to take on the University of Providence. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m.
