Lady Dogs scrap but get poached by Eagles

In what was another heartbreaking loss for the Bulldogs program in the same night, the Lady Dogs played their tails off tonight.

Brooke Groesbeck started the scoring off for the Lady Bulldogs followed by a bucket from Big Sky in the opening two possessions. Brityn Stewart cashed in a three ball for the Lady Dogs to give them a 5-4 advantage with 5 minutes to go.

Dylan Bartoletti would drive the lane and get a quick two and a foul but miss the free throw, Emmarie Richards off the miss sunk a triple to make it 12-5 Dogs.

Big Sky would come down and hit a triple of their own to make it 12-8 Butte High, with 40 seconds left Richards drilled a deep 2 to make it 14-11 Dogs.

Big Sky marched right back down and sunk another three themselves and a buzzer beater on their next possession to make it 14-13 Butte High after 1 quarter of play.

Richards would open the period following her own miss with a smooth dish to Brityn Stewart underneath for 2, Big Sky would hit yet another triple and the game was knotted at 16 apiece 2 minutes into the period.

Both teams traded buckets midway through the quarter as Butte edged a 20-18 advantage with 3 minutes to go. The Eagles would get a turnover off the shot clock violation take it down and get fouled on their next possession missing both shots at the line.

Brityn Stewart would make another trip as well to the charity stripe and hit 1 of 2 to make it 21-18 Lady Dogs. Emmarie Richards was in attack mode early and often as she drove to the bucket and drew the foul with 2:30 seconds to go and made 1 of 2 at the line.

Big Sky made a living behind the 3-point arch cashing in another triple to make it 22-21 Butte 1:50 remaining. After a pair of free throws from the Dogs, Big Sky would come down and complete a 4-point play and take a 1-point lead.

The game was tied at 26 points apiece heading to the half.

Butte High opened the second half with a 31-28 lead midway through the period, both teams would stall offensively in the 3rd as Butte led 33-32 with 1:37 left.

Big Sky would come out of the timeout and nail a three-pointer and then march right back down and hit another to go up 38-33 at the end of 3.

Brityn Stewart would open the scoring up in the 4th for the Lady Dogs with an easy two under the basket, 39-36 Eagles, and a timeout was taken with 4:51 to go in the final frame.

The Bulldogs would run into a bit of a cold streak not being able to cash in any of their shots or put backs, with 2:33 to play Brityn Stewart went to the line and knocked down both to cut the lead to just 1.

With just under a minute to go the Eagles would knock down a free throw to tie it at 41 with 53 seconds left in regulation.

With 14 seconds to go Bartoletti would miss a jumper, but the Bulldogs would rebound and call a timeout to draw up a play. They would come out of the timeout and hit Bartoletti again for the open shot, but she would miss, and time would expire, and the lady’s game would head to overtime as well.

Emarie Richards would start the scoring off in the extra time hitting one of two free throws to give the Dogs a 1-point advantage. Big Sky would hit a three ball in the corner with 3 minutes left to take a 3-point lead.

Butte High’s Cadence Graham knocked down a huge three ball to tie it at 45 with 2:33 to go. Big Sky would come out of the time out and get a quick 2 to go up by 2 with 1:30 remaining, 47-45. Butte would get a stop on a shot clock violation and get the ball back with a minute left but come up empty on that possession.

Emarie Richards would do what she did all night, she had ice in her veins and knocked down a huge 3 to give the dogs a 1-point lead with 10 seconds to go.

Big Sky would come out of the timeout on an inbounds play, dribble full court and bank a 3 ball for the game winner at the buzzer in overtime and the Lady Bulldogs lose a heartbreaker as well 50-48.

Brityn Stewart led the way for the Lady Dogs with 16 points, Emmarie Richards tossed in 11, Cadence Graham had 7, Brooke Groesbeck had 5, Laura Rosenleaf had 4, Paton Clary had 3 and Dylann Bartoletti had 2.

The Lady bulldogs will head to Missoula to take on Sentinel @ 7pm.
