Kistler, Tripp named to another All-American team

MISSOULA — The University of Montana’s Danny Kistler Jr. and Jordan Tripp have both added more post-season awards to their lists, as they were both named to AFCA FCS 2013 Coaches’ All-American team, that organization announced today.

Last week, Kistler was named to the three All-American teams.  He was tabbed first team by the Associated Press and Walter Camp Foundation, and third team by the Sports Network.  Tripp was named first team by the Associated Press and second team by the Sports Network last week.

A 6-8, 315-pound senior from Seattle, Wash., Kistler was recently selected to play in the 89th Annual East-West Shrine Game, Saturday, Jan. 18 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Kistler was a first team All-Big Sky Conference pick for the second straight season in 2013.  He was named Montana’s outstanding offensive lineman for the second season in a row (Paul Weskamp Award). He served as the  the Grizzlies’ offensive co-captain his senior year.

A three-year starter at tackle and guard (his sophomore year), Kistler had 27 starts in a row as a junior and senior,  and played in 48 career games, with 42 career starts.

Tripp will be playing in the 65th Annual Senior Bowl, Saturday, Jan. 25 in Mobile, Alabama.  The 6-3 ½, 237-pound senior outside linebacker from Missoula was the Grizzlies’ second-leading tackler in 2013 with 100 stops.

Named first team All-Big Sky and also an All-America selection the past two straight seasons, Tripp was also Montana’s co-captain on defense as a junior and senior.  He was chosen UM’s Pat Norwood Award winner (Most Inspirational Player), following the 2013 season.

Tripp has been a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award (the FCS Defensive Player of the Year) the past two seasons, and was 10th in the balloting both of those years.  He is ranked fourth in school history with 336 career tackles.  He played in 52 career games and started in 38.
