WHITEFISH — Brianna King and Brandon Jones of Montana Western were named the Frontier Conference Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced today.
King took home the women’s award, while Jones received the men’s honor.
This marks the third straight week and the fifth time this season that King took home the weekly award. It is also the second straight week that Western swept the honors. Western’s Zaccheus Darko-Kelly received the men’s award last week.
King is a 5-foot-5 junior guard from Spokane, Washington. This past weekend, the No. 24-ranked Bulldogs went 2-0. At home, Western edged (RV) Lewis-Clark State 60-57 and on the road, beat Montana Tech 67-56.
King averaged 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. She was 16 of 39 from the field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line.
Monica Landdeck of Montana Tech, Mikayla Jones of Rocky Mountain College, Jaidyn Lyman of Carroll College, Kealani Sagapolu of MSU-Northern and Hailey Turner of Lewis-Clark State were also nominated.
Jones is a 6-5 junior forward from Houston. No. 8 Montana Western went 1-1 for the weekend. At home, the Bulldogs fell 101-97 in double overtime to No. 19 Lewis-Clark State. That came two nights after the Bulldogs beat Montana Tech 75-71 in Butte.
Jones averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and one block. He was 14 of 30 from the field including 2 of 4 3-point field goals and was 10 of 16 from the free throw line.
Jake Miles of Montana Tech, Cory Dollarhide of Lewis-Clark State, Ryan Imhoff of Carroll College, Ryan Reeves of MSU-Northern and Jared Samuelson of Rocky Mountain College were also nominated.
