The Knights of Columbus’ sports shrine will grow by two teams with championship banner unveilings Thursday afternoon.

Joining the many photos and memorials will be Butte Central’s state champion boys’ basketball teams from 1978 and 2022.

Those banners will be unveiled in front of members of both teams at 4 p.m. at the KC.

Led by head coach John Thatcher, the Maroons posted a 22-4 record on their way to the crown. BC beat Glendive 55-48 in the championship game. Ray Jay Johnson, a star player from that 1978 team, will be inducted into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame this weekend.

The 2022 Maroons posted the best record in school history while winning the title. BC went 26-1 with a 61-58 win over Lewistown in the championship game.
