The Knights of Columbus Athletic Club’s 28th year of the Little Kid Hoops program will begin Saturday at the Felix Madrazo Gym.
The league will run each Saturday through January, taking a weekend off for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enter the gym on the corner of Park and Idaho streets on the Idaho Street side.
Players can participate one week, some weeks or all weeks. There is no commitment.
The program is free for all elementary-aged kids from kindergarten through fifth grade. Kindergarten through second grade will play from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on 8-foot hoops. They will be placed on teams to try to best match up skill level and experience.
From 10:30 to noon, third-through fifth will play on the 10-foot hoops and will be placed on teams to best match up.
This program was originally started by Bernie Boyle and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in 1992. It was started as a way to keep kids active and enthusiastic about sports. Children of all levels of experience are encouraged to participate and the No. 1 priority is having fun. Every player who plays will get an opportunity to bring the ball up the court and an opportunity to shoot the ball.
Parents are welcome to sit down below or stand around the running track to cheer on their little ones. Contact Tom Boyle at 498-4201 or Dan Boyle at 491-2529 with questions or to volunteer.
