Katie Wiley wins league Attacker of the Week

WHITEFISH — Montana Tech middle blocker Katie Wiley was named the Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week, the league announced today.

Wiley is a 6-foot sophomore from Kalispell. She helped No. 23 Montana Tech win two matches to extend the Oredigger volleyball team’s winning streak to eight matches. The Orediggers beat No. 17 Carroll College 3-2 on the road and at home beating Lewis-Clark State 3-0.

Wiley averaged 2.63 kills with a .563 hitting percentage on the week.

Monday’s award marks the first of Wiley’s career.

Kori Milan of the University of Great Falls, Paige Montgomery of Carroll College, Timi Severson of MSU-Northern and Savannah Smith of Rocky Mountain were also nominated.

Defender of the Week: Natalie Kassa, Carroll College, 5-foot-5 senior defensive specialist from Spokane, Washington. No. 17 Carroll split its week’s matches, losing at home to No. 23 Montana Tech 2-3 and sweeping Lewis-Clark State 3-0. Kassa averaged 6.11digs per set.

Butte High graduate Hannah Amtmann, a true freshman at MSU-Northern, was also nominated, as were Holland Fergurson of Rocky Mountain, Sabrina Hopcroft of Montana Tech and Madison Wilhelm of the University of Great Falls.

Setter of the Week: Bree Davis, University of Great Falls, 6-foot senior setter from Flagstaff, Arizona. UGF won two road matches for the week beating Montana Western 3-0 and Rocky Mountain 3-0. Davis averaged 12.17 assists and 2.67 digs per set.

Also Makenzie Bauck of Montana Tech, Hailey Copinga of Rocky Mountain College, Jonni Dorr of Carroll College and Emily Russell of MSU-Northern were also nominated.
