Justin Sullivan leads Highland View tourney

Butte native Justin Sullivan shot a 2-over-par 72 Saturday to take the first-day lead at the Highland View Men’s Invitational Tournament at the Highland View Golf Course.

Sullivan, a Butte High and Montana Tech graduate who lives in Missoula, leads the Open Division by one shot over Patrick O’Rourke. O’Rourke is also a former Bulldog and Oredigger. He lives in Idaho Falls.

Vic Duffin and Don Foley are two back at 74 in the Open.

Fred Zemljak and Pete Yerkich are also one shot back of Sullivan at 73. They are tied for the lead of the Senior Division. Chuck Stratford and Mark Hodges are tied for third at 76.

Bill Kelly leads the Super Senior Division with an 82. Leon Simpson is one back, while John Welter and Sam Leyba are two back.

The tournament doubles as the city championship. Only Butte players are eligible for that title. The 36-hole event concludes on Sunday.
