Joyce, Yelenich, Green crack top 10 at tourney

Butte Central’s Tricia Joyce and Tyge Yelenich and Butte High’s Houston Green placed in the top 10 at a high school golf tournament hosted by Butte High Friday.

Friday’s final round was played on a picture-perfect day at the Butte Country Club one day after the tournament opened at a windy Old Works in Anaconda.

Joyce, who shot 89 on Thursday, fired a final-round 77 at the Country Club to place second at 166. First-day leader Hannah Rosanova also shot a 77 and claimed medalist honors at 157. She shot an 80 on Thursday.

Bozeman’s Kameryn Basye placed third at 167 after a 78, and the Hawks won the team title at 684. The Hawks improved 15 shots from the first day for a 333 on Friday.

Billings West was a distant second at 791, followed by Billings Skyview at 812, Great Falls High at 816, Great Falls Russell at 865 and Butte High at 871.

Butte High shot a 403 after an opening-round 468. Senior Lexi Williams, Butte High’s No. 1 player, returned to action after missing Thursday’s round with an illness. She shot 87 to pace the Bulldogs on Friday.

Katelyn Alley shot a 100 to finish at 115, while Sadie Starcevich shot 106 for a 215. Grace Luoma shot 110, and Kelliann Neary carded a 115. BC’s Megan Michelotti finished with a 130.

Yelenich, a junior, followed Thursday’s 81 with a 75 for a 156 total and sixth place. Green, a senior, shot a 76 after a first-round 83. He placed seventh at 159.

Bozeman’s Joey Moore, the first day leader an one of just five boys to break 80 at the Old Works on Thursday, shot a 2-over-par 72 Friday for a 151.

He beat Hamilton’s Max Toenjes, who shot a final-round 70, and Billings Skyview’s Logan Martin by one shot.

Great Falls High improved 16 shots for a 307 to top the team standings at 630. Billings West placed second at 645. Bozeman shot 651, while CMR hit 658, Skyview shot 661 and Butte High placed sixth at 664. Butte Central took eighth at 693.

Marcus Lynch improved four shots for an 81 and a 166 total for the Bulldogs. Will Hoagland hit an 88 for a 170, Isaiah Weldon shot an 82 for 174, and Carsten Quam shot 86 for a 175.

Freshman Gator Yelenich shot an 86 to finish at 167 for the Maroons. He missed the top 15 by three shots.

Also for BC, Cameron Johnson shot an 87 for a 184, Bryan Arnold hit 90 for a 186, and Colin Crase improved 40 strokes from a rough first round for a 95.

Butte Central will play at a tournament hosted by Dillon next week. The Bulldogs will compete in Bozeman.
