LIVINGSTON — The extra few days were worth the wait for Tricia Joyce.

The Butte Central golfer opened her sophomore season in style Friday by winning the Park Invitational at the Livingston Country Club. Joyce fired an 84 for a cushioned victory.

Joyce, who placed second at last year’s state tournament, couldn’t compete in Monday’s Butte Central Invitational because she didn’t have enough team practices. That is because she was representing Montana in the Montana-Alberta Junior Ryder Cup.

Kinsey Irvin placed a distant second at 90.

On the boys’ side, junior Tyge Yelenich had another bid day. He shot a 79 to tie for third place with Belgrade’s Eli Baker. Liam Clancy of Billings Central won with a 68.

Also for BC, Cameron Johnson shot an 86, Dan McCloskey and Gator Yelenich each hit 89 and Bryan Arnold carded a 94.

Billings Central won the team title with a 319. The host Rangers placed second at 336, followed by BC at 343.

Lewistown and Dillon were the only girls’ teams with enough players for a team score. Lewistown shot a 412, while Dillon hit 458.

Next up for the Maroons is Monday’s Belgrade Invitational at the Riverside Country Club.
