Joyce wins Butte Invite, Weldon takes fourth

GREGSON — Tricia Joyce and Isaiah Weldon capped successful runs at the Butte Invitational golf tournament Friday.

Joyce, a Butte Central sophomore, claimed medalist honors on the girls’ side, while Weldon, a Butte High junior, placed fourth on the boys’ leaderboard in the 13-team tournament.

Joyce, who has won all three tournaments she’s competed in, followed Thursday’s 82 with an 84 for a 166. That was nine shots better than second-place Hannah Rosanova Bozeman. Rosanova improved five shots for an 85 and a 175.

Missoula Sentinel’s Sydnee Nowlen, who trailed Joyce by one shot after the first round, placed third at 182 after a final-round 99.

Butte High senior Lexi Williams shot a final-round 95 for a 186 and seventh place.

Bozeman won the team title at 733 after Friday’s 370. Helena Capital was second at 817, followed by Helena High at 849 and Kalispell Glacier at 850. The Bulldogs placed fifth at 862. Butte High shot 427 on Friday.

Kelliann Neary improved 17 shots to shoot 104 for Butte High and finished at 225. Sadie Starcevich was one shot better at 224 after a 113. Also, Katelyn Alley finished at 227, and Grace Luoma carded a 254 total.

Megan Michelotti, a golf newcomer, finished at 303 for the Maroons.

Missoula Sentinel’s Sam Ramsbacher won boys’ medalist honors at 149 after a final-round 75. Capital’s Riley Lawrence and Connor Mora tied for second at 150. Mora, the first-round leader, slipped to an 81 after an opening-round 69.

Weldon improved on shot from Thursday with a 75 on Friday for a 151.

Butte Central junior Tyge Yelenich cracked the top 10. He followed a 77 with an 81 for a 158.

Great Falls High won the team title at 616. The Bison shot 322 following Thursday’s blistering 294.

Bozeman took second at 634. Sentinel placed third at 644, and Butte High placed fourth at 650. Butte Central placed 10th at 693.

The Bulldogs improved two shots on the final day for a 324.

Houston Green matched Thursday’s 82 for a 164, while Marcus Lynch improved two shots for an 82 and 166. Will Hoagland shot 169 after a final-round 85, while freshman Kaven Noctor improved four shots for an 87 and a 178.

Butte Central shot 364 on the final day. Freshman Gator Yelenich posted the best BC score of the day for an 80 and a 161. He tied for 15th but missed out on the top 15 because of a scorecard playoff.

Cameron Johnson shot 91 for a 177 for BC, while Cole Johnson finished at 94 for a 206 and Colin Crase hit 96 for a 199.

The Bulldogs and Maroons will play at a tournament next week at the Old Works in Anaconda and the Butte Country Club.
