Butte Central’s girls’ basketball team overcame a 19-point first half deficit to knock off Ronan 57-54 during the first round of the Western A Divisional basketball tournament on the Dale Berry Court.
The surging Maroons will play Browning in Friday’s 5 p.m. semifinal game. (Stats)
Tricia Joyce led the way for the Maroons who got off to an awful start. The Maroons trailed 21-6 after the first quarter. Ronan led by as many as 19 in the second.
Joyce hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter to lead the comeback. She hit a trey at the buzzer to send the Maroons into halftime leading 32-31.
On the game, Joyce hit 7 of 9 shots from 3-point land on her way to 23 points. Her s seven 3-pointers tied a school records. She joins Jodi Hogart (2005), Quinn Peoples (2010), Kacie McKeon (2012) and Kloie Thatcher (2016) in the school record book.
Amira Bolton added 12 points and five rebounds for the Maroons. Sofee Thatcher scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Delaney Hasquet and Maddi Kump each scored six points. Hasquet also grabbed six boards.
Emma Keely chipped in with two points and five boards.
Taylor Harrington, Bella Sorini and Shea Davis also contributed for the Maroons (10-11).
Jaylea Lunceford scored 15 points and grabbed 12 boards to lead the Maidens (9-13), who head to loser-out play. Tiana Ulutoa scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Regan Clairmont tossed in 11.
