POLSON — Butte Central cousins Frank and Jim Joyce are still battling in the Class A State tennis tournament.
The BC cousins won a first round match Thursday, beating Polson’s Tyler Dupuis and Sam Kinzle 6-2, 6-3 in doubles action. After falling 6-0, 6-0 to John Knisely and Harrison Fagg of Billings Central, the Maroon duo beat Stevensville Joseph Fecteau and Curtis Liston 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the consolation side.
The tournament, which played late into the night because of rain, continues Friday with the boys playing at Polson and the girls playing at Ronan.
BC singles players Kale Guldseth and Northey Tretheway bowed out in the first day.
Tretheway fell 6-1, 6-0 to Brady Hislop of Polson. He rebounded to beat Nathan Sickler of Glendive 6-4, 6-1 before falling to Alma Powell of Lewistown 6-0, 6-4.
Guldseth fell 6-2, 6-1 to Northwestern A champion Dylan McCrumb of Polson. He lost out 6-3, 6-0 to Andrew Bruno of Lewistown.
