Johnson’s first start as Card ends in loss

CINCINNATI — Rob Johnson’s first start at catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals ended in a loss Saturday night at Great American Ball Park.

Cardinals starting pitcher Jake Westbrook (7-6) struggled, allowing five runs in five innings as the Reds won 8-3.

Johnson went 0 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. He reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Matt Holliday in the sixth. Johnson is batting .200. He is 2 for 10 with a triple, two walks and an RBI in eight games since being called up from Triple-A Memphis on July 9.
