MISSOULA — A Joey led after each round of the 2021 Montana State Men’s Amateur Championship.
On Saturday, though, it was Bozeman’s Joey Lovell on top of the pack at the Canyon River Golf Course. Lovell fired a final-round 66 to top 2019 champion Joey Moore of Billings by one shot for his first State Am title. (Leaderboard)
Moore, a senior on the San Diego State golf team, led after each of the first two rounds.
Lovell, who shot a 66 and a 65 to open the tournament, shot 31 on the front and 35 on the back Saturday. He finished at 197, which is 19 under par. Moore shot a 35 to fall behind and battled back with a 33 for a 198. He shot 62 and 68 on Thursday and Friday.
Helena’s Riley Lawrence carded a 65 to shoot up leaderboard to place third at 203. Former three-time champion Nathan Bailey of Laurel placed fourth at 204, and Helena’s Spencer Williams took fifth at 205.
Marcus Drange of Billings and Liam Clancy of Laurel tied for sixth at 207.
Montana Tech golfer Sean Ramsbacher tie for 11th with fellow Missoula golfer Zeke Boos at 216. Ramsbacher shot a second straight 74 after an opening-round 68.
Kaven Noctor of Butte closed with a final-round 71 to tie for third in the second flight at 224. Jack Prigge, who will be a junior at Butte High this coming school year, finished strong with a 74. He placed fourth in the third flight at 230.
Missoula’s Bill Dunn, who won the 2009 State Am at the Butte Country Club, tied with Dave Eames of Billings for the Senior division title at 212. Missoula’s Cory Bedell won the Super Senior division.
