GREAT FALLS — Round 2 went to Jeff Queer.
The heavyweight wrestler from Butte beat Merlin Whitedirt of Colstrip in a 3-1 overtime thriller Saturday night during the inaugural East vs. West Montana All-Star Duel at The University of Providence’s McLaughlin Center.
Queer, a senior at Butte High, was one of three Butte wrestlers who participated in the event. Wil Queer and Gabe Tierney also made the trip to compete for the West Team.
The East won the dual, which was not sanctioned by the Montana High School Association, 30-22.
Wil Queer fell to Alejandro Madrid of Billings, while Tierney lost to Matthew Dewitt of Billings.
Two weeks earlier at the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls, Whitedirt edged Jeff Queer in overtime in the heavyweight championship match. Queer is the defending Class AA state champion, while Whitedirt is the reigning Class B/C champ.
Butte native Mark Johnston coached the East Team, while former Butte High coach Jim Street led the West.
Results from the dual were not available until late Sunday afternoon.
