Jackets turn back Maroons on Grizzly Softball Field

MISSOULA — The Butte Central softball team got to play on a field of dreams Friday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Maroons, that did not translate into a win.

Stevensville put up for runs in the bottom of the first and three in the second on the way to a 7-4 Southwestern A win over the Maroons.

The game was played on the University of Montana’s Grizzly Softball Field.

Central started out strong with three in the top of the first inning, and the Maroons closed with a run in the seventh. That, though, was not enough.

Syd Paul homered and drove in three runs to lead the Yellowjackets. Ashlin Heller pitched the distance, striking out four for the win.

BC outhit Stevi 11-6. Cassidy Strizic tripled in a 3-for-4 performance to lead the Maroons. Zoe Doherty doubled, and Makala Doherty hit a pair of singles.

Maddie Kump, Emma Keeley, Maci Reopelle, Brenna Foley and Maggie Stimatz also singled for BC. Makala Doherty pitched the distance for BC.

The Maroons will finally play on their home field on Saturday. BC will take on Hamilton at 1 p.m. before battling Dillon at 4 p.m.

Both games count in Southwestern A standings.
