‘Iceman’ wins age group at Governor’s Cup half

HELENA — Butte runner Chris “ Iceman” Tippett ran to victory Saturday at the Governor’s Cup.

The 62-year-old Tippett won the male 60-69 age group in the half marathon. He posted a time of 1 hour, 40 minutes, 5.13 seconds, finishing with a pace of 7:38 per mile.

He beat second-place runner Richard Parish of Helena by nearly 19 minutes.

Tippett placed 23rd overall. Missoula’s Mark Messmer won the half marathon with a time of 1:09:01.85.

Karla Pomrenke of Butte placed third in the female 50-59 age group with a time of 2:19:12.22. Fellow Butte runner Ann Aayrynen took third in the female 60-69 group. She crossed in 2:24:46.23.

Also, Kelsie Burford of Butte finished in 2:16:29.96. That was good for third in the female 30-39 age group.

In the 10-kilometer race, Butte’s Jeff Braun placed eighth overall with a time of 42:13. That was good for the Male Senior title.

In the 5-K, Joan Roche won the female 80-89 age group. The Butte runner finished in 52:13.73.

Butte’s Carson  Kriskovich took home the title in the male 1 to 12 age group with a time of 23:18.65.

    7:38 a mile. Ice is simply unbelievable.
