Hyde, Posten, Connolly earn Frontier football awards

Players from College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon University and Rocky Mountain College were named Frontier Conference Football Players of the Week, the league announced today.

Offensive Player of the Week: J.J. Hyde, College of Idaho, 6-foot-2, 230-pound freshman quarterback from Caldwell, Idaho. In College of Idaho’s 40-28 season opening win over No. 13 Eastern Oregon, Hyde rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries in his collegiate debut. Also nominated and listed in alphabetical order: Jace Billingsley of Eastern Oregon and Chase White of Rocky Mountain College.

Defensive Player of the Week: Gary Posten, Eastern Oregon, 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior linebacker from Emmett, Idaho. In No. 13 Eastern Oregon’s 28-40 season opening conference loss to College of Idaho, Posten recorded 11 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles. Also nominated and listed in alphabetical order; Eric Buer of Rocky Mountain College and Josh Price of College of Idaho.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Evan Connolly, Rocky Mountain College, 6-foot-3, 185-pound, senior kicker from Waterford, Ireland. In Rocky’s 23-13 season opening win over Dickinson State, Connolly was three for three in field goals and two for two in extra points. Also nominated: B.J. Newman of College of Idaho.
