GREAT FALLS — On a day when fellow Butte golfers Lexi Williams and Kodie Hoagland posted key victories in the South West Montana Junior Golf Tour, Houston Green absolutely lit up the Meadowlark Country Club Monday.
Green fired a 5-under-par 67 to run away with the Jason Day Division at the Cascade County Junior Golf Dual. The Day Division is for boys 16-17. (Leaderboard)
The victory put Green in position to win the division title next Monday’s Old Works Championship. (Tour standings)
Butte’s Will Hoagland placed second with a 73, continuing his strong run in the second half of the tour. Butte’s Marcus Lynch and Isaiah Weldon tied for third at 81.
Williams posted a key victory in the Lydia Ko Division for girls 16-17. Williams shot an 86 for an eight-shot victory over second-place Mikaela Latka of Helena. The victory put Williams in the driver’s seat for the division crown.
Helena’s Kielar Jones and Wes Nehl tied for third at 97.
Hoagland shot a 61 over nine holes to win the Lexi Thompson Division for girls 12-13. That win also put her in control of the division. Butte’s Ella Prigge shot a 65 for second place, while Butte’s MacKenzie Finnegan placed third at 72.
Grace Luoma of Butte once again won the Inbee Park Division for girls 14-15 with a 117. She was the lone competitor in the division.
Whitehall’s Max Feight, a regular at the Butte Country Club, tied with Hamilton’s Tanner Hanson atop the Jordan Spieth Division for boys 14-15 with an 83. Tristan Hanson of Hamilton took third at 85, while Butte’s Kaven Noctor and Helena’s Gabe Witham tied for fourth at 89.
Cullen Visser of Manhattan won the Rory McIlroy Division for boys 12-13. He shot nine-hole 44 to edge Ryley Conner of Hamilton by two shots.
The tournament was the eight stop on the nine-tournament tour.
