Colbert’s 6-for-9 shooting led MSU to a 52% shooting night for the Cats, the first time MSU hit more than half its shots on the season. The sophomore guard also dished out six assists and grabbed a pair of boards.

“Marcus is a competitor, a winner,” said Bobcat coach Brad Huse. “He finds different ways to help you win games. He just keeps coming at you.”

Colbert helped the Bobcats get off to a quick start, nailing a three-pointer on the team’s third possession to stake MSU to a 5-0 lead. He also drained three three-pointers and a short jumper over a four-minute stretch mid-way through the first half to boost MSU’s lead from three points to eight at the seven minute mark.

Colbert led a balanced Bobcat attack featuring a revamped starting lineup. Sophomore forward Terrell Brown scored 11 as a starter, while Paul Egwuonwu added 11 off the bench. Freshman Stephan Holm nailed four three-pointers to chip in 12 points off an MSU bench that scored 37 of the team’s 77 points.

“It’s a different bench than we’ve had,” Huse said. “But it shows that we have different guys that can score.”

MSU led for the last 34 minutes of the game, taking a 37-30 lead into the intermission then taking control with a 12-4 spurt out of the gates in the second half. MSU led by 20 when Flavien Davis hit a pair of free throws with 7:05 to play. The Matadors whittled that lead in half, but MSU hit seven of its 10 free throws in the final 2:06 to seal the win.

Stephan Hicks scored 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting to lead CSUN, and also grabbed 10 boards. MSU shot 58% after halftime, and hit a season-high 12 three-pointers.

Montana State raised its record to 2-4 on the season, while Cal State Northridge falls to 3-4. The Bobcats visit Wyoming Saturday at 7:30 pm.
