Hollow, Ralph in medal hunt

ANACONDA — Butte Central golfers Cal Hollow and Derek Ralph are just outside of the top 15 after the first round of the Class A State tournament at the Old Works.

Hollow fired an 82 and is two shots out of the to 15. Ralph carded an 83 for the Maroons, while Jack Gallagher shot 98.

The top 15 are classified as All-State.

Paul Brennan and Bobby Frank of Sidney each shot a 2-over 74 to take the first-round lead. Anaconda Freshman Caleb Stetzner is three shots back.

Belgrade leads the team standings at 322, one shot better than Whitefish. Anaconda is sixth at 349.

On the girls’ side, Polson fired a 356 to take a 28-shot lead over second-place Laurel. The Copperheads are fifth at 411.

Polson’s Jaylin Kenney is the first-round leader after an 80. Christal Tokash of Livingston is second at 82.

Butte Central freshman Regan Weldon shot 118.

The second round begins at 8 a.m. Saturday.
