GREAT FALLS – Hayla Hoffman won a championship and six other Butte High girls placed as the Bulldogs took second in the CMR Holiday Classic high school wrestling girls’ competition.
The tournament finished Saturday in the CMR Fieldhouse.
Butte High tallied 197 points to finish as the runner-up to Billings Senior, which scored 214, in the girls’ team points. Flathead of Kalispell was third with 193.
Hoffman won the 165-pound division with a 2:38 pin over Celia Jaeger of Billings Senior. Hoffman went 4-0 in the tournament.
Butte High got a runner-up finish from Sophie Grunhuvd in the 120-pound class. She advanced to the finals before suffering her first loss, a pin to Flathead’s Bella Downing. Grunhuvd went 4-1.
The Bulldogs’ Kaylee LaPier placed third at 107, defeating Mykel Lee of Flathead by 1:26 pin in the consolation final, and posted a 7-1 mark. Mattie Stepan of Butte High was third at 145 with a 2:36 pin over Lidia D’Hooge of Lewistown in their consolation final. Stepan took her mark to 5-1. Another third for Butte High came from senior McKenna Bazo in the 235-pound limit. She scored a 15-second pin over Lucille Libby of Flathead for third place.
Neveah Grunhuvd of Butte High placed fourth at 132 pounds and teammate Teya Edwards was sixth in the same weight class.
The Bulldogs got contributions from Peyton Liva at 100 pounds, Laura Warren at 107, Jessie LaPier at 107, Bella Real at 114, Aydin Gonzales at 114, Maria Hanson at 126, Rylee Radcliffe at 152 and Ashlee Wilcox in the 235-pound limit class.
