Hoaglands, Luoma, weather rule at Anaconda Challenge

OPPORTUNITY — The Southwest Montana Junior Golf Tour golfers braved the wind, rain and even some hail Wednesday at the Anaconda Challenge.

On the day in which Mother Nature delivered at least three seasons at the Anaconda Country Club, Butte golfers Will Hoagland, Kodie Hogland and Grace Luoma posted victories in their respective divisions. (Results)

Will Hoagland had the round of the day, matching par with a 71 to run away with the title in the Jason Day Division for boys 16-17. Fellow Butte golfer Isaiah Weldon placed second at 79, while Butte’s Houston Green and Clancy’s Gabe Pargot tied for third at 81.

Kodie Hoagland claimed the title in the Lexi Thompson Division for girls 12-13. She shot a nine-hole 55 to bet fellow Butte golfer Ella Prigge by two shots.

Luoma played solo in the Inbee Park Division for girls’ 14-15. She shot a 129.

Helena’s Wes Nehl picked up a key victory in the Lydia Ko Division for girls 16-17. She shot an 84 to top Butte’s Lexi Williams by nine shots. Helena’s Amber O’Mara placed third at 94.

In the Jordan Spieth for boys 14-15, Hamilton’s Tristan Hanson and Max Feight tied for the top spot at 82. Hamilton’s Tanner Hanson took third at 89.

Hamilton’s Ryley Conner’s 49 over nine holes won the Rory McIlroy Division for boys 12-13. Whitehall’s Burke Mastel placed second at 51, followed by Manhattan’s Cullen Visser at 52.

Next week the tour will stop on Deer Lodge for the Powell County Invitational at the Deer Park Golf Course.
