Hoagland, Montana top Alberta at Ryder Cup

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta — Montana’s boys and girls golfers topped their counterparts from north of the boarder Monday and Tuesday at the Alberta/Montana Junior Ryder Cup.

On the girls’ side, Montana edged Alberta 20-16, winning the Cup for the first time in two decades.

Butte golfer Hailey Hoagland scored one point for the Montana squad in Tuesday’s individual match play.

Billings golfer Samantha Walter, the other 17-year-old player on the six-girl squad, scored three points, as did Billings’ Kortney McNeil, 16. Missoula’s Sadie Crippen, 16, scored two points.

Great Falls’ Catrina Babinecz and Helena’s Coral Schultz, both 15, also played for the Montana girls.

On the boys’ side, Montana won 19 1/2 to 16 1/2.

Austin Berg of Billings, Arthur Doorn of Whitefish, Cody Babinecz of Great Falls, Connor Brown of Bozeman, Sean Benson of Billings and Payton Stott of Billings played for Montana.

The Montana players qualified for the Ryder Cup at the Montana State Golf Association junior state tournament, which was in Missoula in June.
