Hellgate girls start fast, take down Bulldogs

MISSOULA — Missoula Hellgate jumped out to a 22-4 lead in the first quarter Saturday afternoon, and the Knights beat Butte High 64-35 in a Western AA girls’ basketball game.

Bailee Sayler poured in 18 points to lead Hellgate, which ran its record to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in conference. Keke Davis scored 11 points in the win, while Lauren Dick netted eight, and Alex Covill and Izzy Hage each scored seven.

Makena Carpenter sank four 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs, who shot 11 for 40 on the day.

Haley Herron scored seven points for the Bulldogs, who got three apiece from McCaul McCarthy, Trisha Ericson and Tyler Clary, two from Brooke McGrath and one from MacKenzie Tutty and Kodie Hoagland.

The Bulldogs, who fell to 7-10 and 4-9, will close out the regular season next Saturday in Missoula against the Sentinel Spartans.
