Hellgate girls start fast, take down Bulldogs

MISSOULA — Missoula Hellgate gave Butte High’s girls’ basketball team a rude welcome back from quarantine Friday night.

Alex Covill scored 15 points to lead the way as the Knights improved to 5-0 with a 51-26 Western AA win over the Bulldogs.

The game was the first for Butte High since Jan. 9. The team had to cancel last week’s games because of a team-wide COVID-19 quarantine, which ended on Friday.

Bailee Sayler added 11 points for the Knights, who led 27-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs bounced back for a strong second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Tylar Clary came off the bench to score eight points to lead the Bulldogs (1-3). Emmarie Richards hit a pair of 3-poitners and scored six points. McCaul McCarthy scored four points, while MacKenzie Tutty, Kodie Hoagland, Ashley Olson and Maddison Skeel each scored two.

Butte High will make up one of last week’s postponed games Saturday when it takes on Kalispell Glacier at 4 p.m. at the Butte Civic Center.
